The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional body horror, but within Together exists a profound contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

A Directorial Debut Exploring Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim move from the metropolis to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, sure, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence begins influencing the duo. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying horror experience, blending moments of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his individual identity in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he refrains from painting either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for one another. They find humor with each other, offer support, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism never feels clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
